Laura Pennell is an artist based in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside. A History of Art graduate, Laura creates images of wildlife and the countryside including rare animals to farming. Living on a farm provides ample opportunity for observing animal behaviour and characteristics, and Laura's work aims to exemplify the individuality and personality of the animals she depicts. A strong focus on colour and realistic detail creates images which are powerful and beautiful.
Laura says:
"I've grown up surrounded by animals and they are the biggest part of my life. I live on an idyllic farm in the North Yorkshire countryside, and couldn't be in a more fortunate place to develop my art. My family breed rare Dales ponies under the Nipna prefix, and have enjoyed many successes with them in the showring and in other disciplines such as dressage and eventing. More information about the farm and ponies can be found at www.facebook.com/nipnadalesponystud
We also have a range of breeds of sheep and I have a small flock of Ryeland sheep who I plan on taking to shows in the future. You can keep up to date with my ponies and sheep on my social media, where I regularly share updates about them!
I have always enjoyed art but it wasn't until 2019 that I started turning my hobby into a profession - since turning my hand to pencils rather than paint, my commissions, original work and prints have flourished. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have this career."
